The summer holidays are getting nearer, you are going to be in Paris and you will have a bit more time available: here are a few suggestions to entertain you!

            A visit to the cinema!

As if often the case, the summer is a period when lots of family films are released:

-          'Shrek 4, il était une fin' to be released June 30th 2010

-          'Toy Story 3' to be released July 14th 2010: Andy has grown up and started at university, what will the toys do?

-          And there are always adventure films from 9-10 years old: 'Robin des Bois', 'Prince of Persia: les sables du temps'

-          For those a bit older, there is the Cinéma Au Clair de Lune in August, 13 free evenings in public places. Programmes on www.forumdesimages.fr

Take a hike!

Visit the Parc Floral and discover its three music festivals for all ages: The Pestacles, Classique au Vert and Paris Jazz Festival.

-          The 'Pestacles' (from June 2nd to September 22nd) let children discover the world of art via concerts, educational exhibitions, lectures… Full details on www.lespestacles.fr

-          For classical music lovers, the 'Classique au Vert' (from August 7th to September 26th) celebrates Chopin and Schuman's birthdays but also includes music by Mendelssohn and Liszt, from the same period, and also from Schubert, Berlioz, Brahms… Full details on www.classiqueauvert.fr

-          And the Paris Jazz Festival (from June 12th to August 1st) has numerous concerts to satisfy every Jazz fan. Full details on www.parisjazzfestival.fr

Dally in the Jardin des Plantes where you can visit the great glasshouses that have just re-opened: a fabulous trail through exotic and fragile plants! You can then have look round the menagerie, which is always a pleasure for the little ones, or the ‘Grande Galerie de l’Evolution’ (great evolution gallery), which is opening a new area in early July called  'La Galerie des Enfants' (the children’s gallery) aimed at 6 - 12 year olds. Visit the 'A l’ombre des dinosaures' (in the dinosaurs’ shadow) exhibition.

Find full details on www.mnhn.fr, www.galeriedesenfants.fr

And a quick visit to a museum!

The 'Musée en Herbs' offers your children the chance to discover Dali and surrealism.   Through until December 31st. Further information on www.musee-en-herbe.com

Go and see the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The toys gallery has an exhibition entitled 'Petites et Grosses Bêtes' (creatures great and small) which asks the question: how does the world of games represent the diversity of animal species? From June 17th to October 17th. Further information on www.lesartsdecoratifs.fr

You could also visit the Petit Palais where the very beautiful Saint-Laurent exhibition rubs shoulders with an original exhibition entitled 'Au pays des Musées' (museum country) (from June 9th to July 18th) where you can see a collection of works by children from different Paris leisure centres. A good way of seeing how children perceive museums. Further information on www.petitpalais.paris.fr
